Pep Lijnders lasted just half a season as Red Bull Salzburg manager before being sack.

17-time Austrian Bundesliga champions Red Bull Salzburg have sacked Pep Lijnders as head coach after Jurgen Klopp’s former right-hand man at Liverpool suffered a disappointing season, Der Standard reported on Monday.

Lijnders spent nine years at Anfield as assistant to Brendan Rodgers and Jurgen Klopp before the 41-year-old took over as Salzburg manager in the summer, but Lijnders’ side suffered a dismal run of form in both the league and the Champions League, leading to the sack.

Salzburg in the Lieders era have collect only 26 points from 16 games in the Austrian Bundesliga, rank 5th in the table, 10 points behind the leader and defending champion Sturm Graz, and are rank 32nd out of 36 teams in the Champions League with only 3 points from 6 games.

‘We started analyzing the ยูฟ่าเบท plan a while ago. Unfortunately, this season has not been satisfactory. It is clear that in many of our games we have not achieved our desires and goals.’

‘For this reason, we believe that our team needs a new impetus under a new management team, even as we hope to turn things around until the end. We would like to thank Pep for his work. He has given a lot of effort and commitment and has created a significant impetus for our further development.’

‘We are now looking for a new coach with determination and commitment and will let you know as soon as a decision is made. We want to start training again on January 3, 2025 with our new coach in place,’ Salzburg CEO Stefan Reiter and Sporting Director Ruven Schroder said in a joint statement.
